Steven Tyler has always liked things fast. And a recent purchase just made things a whole lot faster for the 64-year-old rock star.
The Aerosmith lead singer and American Idol judge rewarded himself on a successful year this week, by buying the world's fastest street-legal car. Tyler purchased a limited edition hand-built convertible worth $1.1 million, better known as The Hennessey Venom GT Spyder, according to Entertainment on Today.
Tyler's new ride is one of five 2013 models released and is the only convertible in the group. The car has some serious power, accelerating up to 200 miles per hour in less than 16 seconds and maxing out at 275 mph — which tops the Bugatti Veyron's previous high of 267 mph.
Basic versions of the car typically cost $950,000, but the Tyler's price tag was a bit heftier. Tyler's edition crossed into the million dollar range because of his request for a removable hardtop roof. The car also had to be adjusted to meet his request for a 7.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine.
The car's creator and owner of Hennessey Performance Engingeering, John Hennessey, talked about the adjustments to Tyler's ride in an interview with Yahoo! Autos.
"We had to make a few structural changes to our integrated rollcage in order to be able to fit the removable top," Hennessey said. "This increased the weight of our vehicle by about 30 pounds to a curb weight of 2743 pounds (1244 kilograms). We decided to increase the Venom GT's power to 1244 bhp to maintain our 1 horsepower per 1 kilogram power to weight ratio."
Tyler may be hitting the road with Aerosmith on this summer's "Global Warming Tour," but when he returns you can be sure to see him warming up the streets in his new Spyder.
