When James Franklin is adding coaches to his staff, he does more than check out his their coaching ability — he checks out their wives too.
The Vanderbilt head coach said that the appearance of a coach's wife plays a role in the interview process, according to CoachingSearch.com.
"I've been saying it for a long time, I will not hire an assistant until I see his wife. If she looks the part and she's a D1 recruit, then you got a chance to get hired," Franklin told the Website.
In case anyone was confused why the appearance of a coach's wife would indicate if he was the right man for the job, Franklin explained his professional reasoning for the evaluation.
"There's a very strong correlation between having the confidence, going up and talking to a women, and being quick on your feet and having some personality and confidence and being articulate and confident, than it is walking into a high school and recruiting a kid and selling him," he said.
Franklin's wife, Fumi, appears to have a Facebook page, which can be seen here.
