With the Devils defeating the Rangers in Game 6 on Friday night, this year’s Stanley Cup Final is set, and it should be an entertaining series.
Both teams are in the midst of an improbable run, as few anticipated this championship showdown.
The Devils entered the playoffs as the Eastern Conference’s sixth seed. They flew way under the radar for most of the year, and some wondered whether Martin Brodeur had enough left in the tank to once again carry the Devils to championship glory. He and the rest of the New Jersey cast have elevated their game, though, showing that the playoffs truly are a brand new season.
The Kings, meanwhile, kicked off their playoff slate as the eighth seed out West. They’ve knocked off the top three seeds en route to their Cup appearance, most recently eliminating the Coyotes in five games.
The talent has always been there for Los Angeles, but the Kings just couldn’t put it together consistently during the regular season. However, their defeat of the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Canucks in the first round really catapulted their impressive playoff run, which they surely hope ends with more hardware.
The Kings have been rolling through the playoffs so far, but a scorching Devils team awaits them.
