When Danny Ainge and the Celtics finally pull the trigger on making a draft pick during Thursday night’s draft — wherever that may be — the team will be making a big step in a new direction.

With the future of key pieces like Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in doubt, the Celtics have to get younger. But they can’t also sacrifice the willingness to compete now, before the team’s championship window closes.
