Nike has taken its production of soccer jerseys up to the next level. Its newest collection of national team uniforms features not only lighter, more breathable material, but also claims to be the most environmentally friendly jersey ever produced.
The newest uniforms — produced for a wide range of nations including the United States, Portugal, Holland, and France — are made of 96 percent recycled material, with an average of 13 recycled bottles going into each full uniform. Without sacrificing any comfort from previous editions, Nike has raised the bar when it comes to sports apparel production.
The new uniforms have been on full display during the recent international friendlies, and will only get a brighter spotlight once the European Championships kick off — with players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Wesley Sneijder, and Franck Ribery all donning Nike gear.
On the other hand, the new U.S.A. uniform has been met with a tepid response by fans, chiefly because it closely resembles a “Where’s Waldo?” Halloween costumes. However, it’s nowhere close the horrific 1994 edition.
