Giancarlo Stanton to Participate in Home Run Derby at Kauffman StadiumGiancarlo Stanton has quickly evolved into one of the game's premier power hitters, and he'll have a chance to show off his talent on the big stage in July.

Stanton has accepted an invitation to participate in this year's Home Run Derby at Kauffman Stadium, joining captains Matt Kemp and Robinson Cano as participants already selected.

Stanton, who hit 34 home runs last year and 22 the year before, enters Thursday's action with 17 big flies this season. The 22-year-old's raw power has been well documented as well, with monster home runs frequently coming off his bat during batting practice.

"I love his chances," Marlins coach Joe Espada told the Miami Herald. "This guy has the best chance to win the Home Run Derby because he can mis-hit the ball and it's going to go over the fence."

The Marlins outfielder even broke the left-field scoreboard at Marlins Park with a mammoth blast earlier this season. With Kauffman Stadium's fountains very much in play at this year's event, we could see some wet baseballs when Stanton's in the box.
