Joe Torre to Manage Team USA at 2013 World Baseball ClassicJoe Torre is making a return to managing. Sort of.

Major League Baseball announced Thursday that the longtime Yankees manager, who now works for MLB, will be the manager of Team USA in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

Torre, who last managed in 2010 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been serving as the executive vice president for baseball operations for Major League Baseball since 2011. He left his post for a while in order to join a group hoping to buy the Dodgers. He then returned to his job with MLB.

Torre, of course, won four World Series titles with the Yankees from 1996 to 2007. He began his managerial career in 1977 with the Mets and also managed both the Braves and Cardinals.

Qualifying for the tournament will begin in late 2012.
