The Red Sox open a three-game series on the North Side of Chicago on Friday afternoon, and they’ll do so with Scott Podsednik atop the lineup.

The speedy 36-year-old has been terrific as an outfield stopgap for Boston since being recalled last month, and he really hasn’t tailed off much after a quick start. Podsednik has five hits on the club’s current road trip, after tallying multi-hit games in two of three against the Marlins.

Podsednik could be poised for more success on Friday afternoon in the series opener at Wrigley Field. The journeyman outfielder has had a ton of success against Cubs starter Ryan Dempster. He’s hitting .389 (7-for-18) for his career off of Dempster, with a home run and a pair of RBIs.

David Ortiz will be in the lineup as well on Friday. The designated hitter once again finds himself at first base in the National League park with Adrian Gonzalez in right field and Kevin Youkilis at third base.
