Conflicting reports regarding Guerrero's future surfaced on Tuesday, with Blue Jays broadcaster Mike Wilner tweeting that Guerrero had decided to give up his comeback bid. Guerrero's agent refuted the report, telling FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal that "nothing is further from the truth." Instead, Guerrero, who had been with the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas, gave the team an ultimatum, according to ESPN.com's Enrique Rojas. The veteran reportedly left the club's minor league affiliate, forcing the Blue Jays to decide whether they wanted to promote him or not.
The Blue Jays have since issued the following tweet.
Guerrero, a nine time All-Star and former American League MVP, hit .313 (15-for-48) with four home runs and 10 RBIs in 11 games split between Single-A and Triple-A this season.
