Alex Rodriguez was voted the league's most overrated position player by his peers in a poll conducted by Sports Illustrated. The magazine polled 228 MLB players, and Rodriguez was considered the most overrated, garnering 16.8 percent of the vote.
Rodriguez's teammate, Derek Jeter, came in second with 9.2 percent of the votes, while Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth (6 percent) rounded out the top three. Another Yankee, Nick Swisher (5.4 percent), ranked fourth on the list, and Albert Pujols (4.7 percent) ranked fifth.
Of course, 228 players isn't a massive sample size, but that number still amounts to about nine full teams worth of votes.
Rodriguez's numbers have dipped in recent years, and when you couple that with his monstrous contract, you've got yourself a recipe for "overrated." Donning pinstripes apparently doesn't help his cause, either.
