But the Red Sox have a Felix of their own, and he's also no stranger to strikeouts.
Felix Doubront (8-4, 4.54 ERA) takes the mound Sunday afternoon for Boston in the final matchup of its four-game series in Seattle. He'll need a bit of a cushion from the Boston bats, though, as the Red Sox have eked out just two runs in their two losses at Safeco so far.
Doubront has been up and down as of late, but one thing he can rely on is his stellar strikeout rate. He's fanned 87 batters in 85 1/3 innings, and he'll have a good chance to continue the trend against the Mariners, who have struck out 616 times this season — tied for second-worst in the American League.
On the mound for Seattle is Jason Vargas (7-7, 4.54 ERA), who has had his share of troubles this season. A few Red Sox players have had success against him in the past, and Adrian Gonzalez (4-for-11 against Vargas), Kelly Shoppach (4-for-9) and David Ortiz (3-for-9) will lead a lineup hungry for runs.
As for the Red Sox' batting order, Brent Lillibridge gets a start in center field and will lead off, giving Daniel Nava a day of rest. Nick Punto is also in the lineup, as Mike Aviles was a late scratch due to illness.
