Can the Red Sox Make the Playoffs With Their Current Roster? The Red Sox currently find themselves on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.

With the trade deadline about a week away, however, the team will have a chance to make some significant changes should they choose to do so. Then again, they might decide to stand pat or just make some minor moves before the season wraps up.

Entering Monday night’s game against Texas, the Red Sox are back in last place of the AL East with a .500 record, a spot they’ve languished in for most of the season. While they are 9 1/2 games back of the first-place Yankees for the division crown, they are only 3 1/2 back of Baltimore and Oakland for the second wild card spot and a chance to make some noise in the postseason.

Considering how much the team has struggled due to injuries and underperforming stars, it’s not unreasonable to think that the Sox could get hot at the right time and make a run to the playoffs. Then again, they may need to make a move or two to fill in the gaps in order to right the ship.
