Clay Cross Town FC Dubs Home Field 'The Devil Made Me Do It Ground'And the award for zaniest stadium name goes to … drumroll please.

Clay Cross Town FC will name its field “The Devil Made Me Do It Ground,” after a promotional lottery left the oddly-named team with an even more bizarrely named stadium, the BBC reports.

The small club, located in the East Midlands region of England, held a promotional event in which local businesses purchased £10 ($15) raffle tickets for the chance to name the stadium. While it may seem like the club has lost this game of promotional Russian roulette, ownership has embraced the new title of the home field that was once called “Mill Lane.”

“We were trying to promote the club, and the town itself,” committee member Martin Roberts told the BBC. “We sold advertising over the summer and anyone who took sponsorship with us could purchase a further ticket which would allow them, if they were drawn out, to name the ground after their business.

“So the draw took place and the shop with the longest name in Clay Cross was pulled out. Now their name will be on the ground for the full season.

“It’s a nice wacky name and it’s created a lot of interest.”

“The Devil Made Me Do It” is a local tattoo shop and its owner, Rob Clements, is already eyeing the payoff from his lucky investment.

“I paid £10 for the raffle ticket but I never win so I was quite shocked when our name was drawn out,” Clements said.

“But watch any game on TV now and all the footballers have a lot of tattoos — so it’s good in that sense,” he concluded.

We wonder if opponents will be intimidated at the thought of playing at the oddly-named field. Chances are they will shudder at the thought.
