Surely, Diego Maradona deserves better than this? The Argentine soccer coach learned that he had been fired on Twitter of all places.

The board of directors at United Arab Emirtes club Al Wasl removed Maradona from his job as manager on July 10. The club tweeted the announcement before it contacted Maradona directly, Sport 360 reports.

"The fact I learned [about my sacking] from Twitter is a mess," Maradona reportedly told Perros de la Calle. "I was working until they decided to make a change. The club is theirs and I cannot say anything as they have the right to choose their representative."

Maradona lasted just 14 months as Al Wasl manager. His erratic behavior (and that of his players) made more headlines than his team's on-field performances. It finished eighth in the U.A.E. Pro League and failed to win any of the domestic or regional cup competitions, and Maradona was let go with a year remaining on his contract.

The former Argentina hero and manager hasn't announced his next move. His former club, Boca Juniors, is reportedly considering offering him a coaching job, but Maradona plans to return to Dubai to get his things before making any concrete plans.

"I'm not complaining because I signed for two years, I will solve my problem with my contract. I'm going to talk face to face. I'll go with my lawyers," he said. "I'm going because I have my house, my clothes, my Ferrari. And I have to say goodbye to the boys. They did an amazing effort."

Maradona is coming off an action-packed year, and it may be time for him to take a Pep Guardiola-style sabbatical. He'll need his energy ahead of a potential return to Boca because he recently called club hero Juan Roman Riquelme a "traitor." Those words won't go down well with the player (or his legions of fans), and Maradona could have a fight on his hands.
