Dustin Pedroia Gets Day Off, Mauro Gomez Batting Sixth While Playing Third Base in Holiday MatineeLike many others out there, Dustin Pedroia will have July 4 off.

The Red Sox second baseman is out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Oakland Athletics, as the Sox look to bounce back from a crushing walk-off loss their last time out.

Recent call-up Mauro Gomez gets the call at third base, batting sixth, in his return to the big leagues. Gomez is still in search of his first major league hit and will be playing third for the first time since 2009, when he was still in Single-A.

On the mound for the Sox, Aaron Cook will look to continue rolling after turning in a 81-pitch complete-game shutout his last time out against the Mariners. A.J. Griffin will start opposite Cook for the A's, going for the sweep against Boston.
