The move offers a sense of security for the Nets, as the organization has locked down a number of key pieces — including re-signing Deron Williams and trading for Joe Johnson — this offseason. But the Nets' decision to move forward with Lopez and jump out of the Howard sweepstakes leaves Dwight in quite the precarious predicament.
Howard, who has openly expressed his desire to leave the Magic for nearly a year now, is still in Orlando and even amidst constant speculation doesn't appear to be ready for a move anytime soon.
The Lakers and Hawks may be calling about his availability, heck the Rockets may even be looking to be a partner in the deal. But the fact is, that no matter how many suitors he's drawn, Howard is still in Orlando and there doesn't seem to be any urgency to let the big man go anytime soon.
Brooklyn, which has reportedly been his preferred destination from the beginning, is no longer a feasible option for Howard — at least not for six months, when Lopez becomes tradeable again — and he may ultimately be relegated to another season in Orlando.
It may not be the ideal situation for either Dwight or NBA fans, as Howard's uncertainty and "stay or go" attitude has held basketball fans everywhere hostage for the past year. But in order to find the right fit for the center and the appropriate deal for the Magic, taking a "wait and see" approach is likely the best option.
So, sit tight Dwight, there's likely plenty more Magic to be made for you in Orlando.
