Gillette Stadium Hosts MLS Futbolito, Local Soccer Stars of All Ages Show Skills on Big Stage (Photos)MLS Futbolito came to Gillette Stadium on Sunday, packing the field with soccer players, skills, goals, fun and sun.

The local edition of Major League Soccer’s official four-on-four tournament attracted over 1,500 players on over 200 teams.

Soccer stars, whose ages range from six to grown-up, took to the turf for the all-day affair. Some arrived as early as 7:30 a.m. for the event that tested their skills and stamina — it was hot out there. Many brought their families along, ensuring the stands were buzzing from start to finish.

Each team played at least three games in the competition, and those that advanced to the playoffs played for medals and more. A $2,000 cash prize was awarded to the winning team in the “Premier Adult” division, but teams in all age groups were playing for glory and local bragging rights.

Those who weren’t playing or cheering at any given moment had other things to do. For example, they could marvel at some of the hairstyles on display or get an early start tailgating. The New England Revolution followed Futbolito by beating the N.Y. Red Bulls 2-0. Most Futbolito players and fans stuck around, making it a full day and night at Gillette Stadium.
