Now, the former Barca boss wants his job back, and he’s using a secret weapon to drum up support.
Laporta is currently dating Spanish porn star Maria Lapiedra, and doing so in Europe (as opposed to the U.S.) makes it no big deal. In fact, Laporta might think his relationship with Lapiedra will help him win over many of the over 170,000 Barca socios (or dues-paying members) that will determine the outcome of upcoming elections.
Lapiedra released a song called “Laporta, mi hombre” (“Laporta, my man”) in support of her hombre’s candidacy. It isn’t catchy in the least bit, nor does it sound very good. But she keeps her clothes on and reminds fans of the glory that Laporta helped bring to Barcelona.
Barca won four La Liga, two UEFA Champions League and one FIFA Club World Cup titles from 2003-2007. Laporta also hand-picked Pep Guardiola to replace Frank Rijkaard as manager in 2008. That move sent the club into another stratosphere, as it would win 14 major trophies with Guardiola on the sidelines.
Laporta’s replacement and current Barcelona president, Sandro Rosell, appointed Tito Vilanova to replace the departed Guardiola. If Vilanova can’t match his predecessor’s feats, expect fans to heed Lapiedra’s advice and turn on his boss.
