Jose Bautista, Giancarlo Stanton Headline Invitees for 2012 Home Run Derby CompetitionThe Home Run Derby invitations have been sent out and now all that remains is waiting for the RSVPs to trickle back in.

The American League squad, captained by Robinson Cano, will consist of Angels outfielder Mark Trumbo, Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder and Blue Jays rightfielder Jose Bautista.

The National League boasts its own star-studded cast as well. NL team captain Matt Kemp has invited Derby rookie Giancarlo Stanton, Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran and Rockies slugger Carlos Gonzalez.

Bautista and Fielder have not yet confirmed that they will in fact participate in the Derby, but are strongly considering.

"The invitation has been sent my way, but I'm 99 percent sure that I will," said Bautista, who leads the majors with 27 home runs. "I have to run it by the team. Some things always happen last minute, and I have to make sure it's fine with them."

The AL team has a slight upper-hand when it comes to regular season stats. Their foursome has a combined 78 homers while the NL team combined for only 68. That lead is partially thanks to Bautista, who has been raking this year for Toronto.

One of the bigger names missing from this year's roster was defending champion Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers. Hamilton hit a record 28 home runs in the opening round of last year's competition and finished with 35 total homers — the most ever recorded in the history of the Home Run Derby. He currently sits in second behind Bautista for most home runs in the league with 25.

The Home Run Derby will take place at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City on July 9 starting at 8 p.m.
