With Jeremy Lin having signed an offer sheet with the Houston Rockets that, according to reports, the New York Knicks aren't prepared to match, it looks as if New York is prepared to let the NBA's biggest sensation of the 2011-12 season walk right out the door.
And who have they brought in to replace the venerable Asian-American of 14.6 points per game and 6.2 assists per game? Well, for one the Knicks signed veteran point guard Jason Kidd to a three-year deal just last week. Then, on Tuesday, the Knicks acquired guard Raymond Felton in a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers, virtually ensuring Lin's exit from Madison Square Garden.
As NESN.com's Ben Watanabe writes, the move isn't a solid one for the Knicks no matter how you split it. Not only is Felton an inferior player to Lin, and one who has already likely reached his peak, but there's no duplications Lin's marketability, especially in The Big Apple.
Nonetheless, the Rockets took very well to Chinese star Yao Ming, so there's already a precedent on the international appeal of Houston's multicultural stars. Now, the question for Lin is whether or not he can reduce his turnover rate while continuing to improve in his role as ball-handler, and keep scoring, too. The move could be good for Lin in several ways.
One thing's for sure, a great deal many more eyeballs will be watching Lin during his second go-round in Texas.
