Matthew Evans Joins David Beckham, Wayne Rooney Among English Goats (Video)

Meet Matthew Evans, the latest England international to lose his cool on the global stage.

Competing in the 2013 FIFA Beach World Cup qualifiers, Evans scored a lamentable own goal. With only a handful of spectators on hand, few would have seen his mistake had he not followed it up by rocketing the ball into the head of his Belarusian counterpart.

Joining the likes of David Beckham (this was foolish), Wayne Rooney (this was cruel), and Rob Green (this was high-comedy) in the Three Lions’ blooper reel, Evans will forever be assured a place in English folklore for his momentary breakdown.

Meanwhile, the strike brings back fond memories of other notable Youtube headshots.

Paul Pierce‘s right-hook to official Eddie Rush turned out to be the highpoint of the 2010 NBA Finals for Boston fans and earned Pierce the fastest awarded “Tommy Point” in history.

Back on English soil, Mardy Fish left his mark on this year’s Wimbledon tournament before bowing out to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Credit Tsonga an assist for his facial expression and be sure to give the line judge some serious kudos for still making the call.

Check out Evans’s punt in the video below.
