Mauro Gomez to DH in Place of David Ortiz, Cody Ross Batting Third Against White SoxMauro Gomez has been back and forth between Boston and Pawtucket three times over the past month, and the 27-year-old slugger is back with the big club and batting sixth for the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Gomez replaces everyday DH David Ortiz, who was placed on the disabled list earlier on Wednesday. In eight games with the Sox this season, Gomez is hitting .308 with 3 RBIs. Cody Ross will hit in Ortiz' typical No. 3 hole in the order, as he returns to his normal place in right field after sitting for much of the game on Tuesday.

Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford will lead things off for the Sox for a third straight game, looking to welcome White Sox left-hander Pedro Hernandez to the big leagues for his major league debut. Hernandez was 7-2 with a 2.75 ERA in 12 starts at Double-A Birmingham this season.

Felix Doubront (9-4, 4.41) will get the start for the Red Sox, taking the mound for the first time since the All-Star break.
