Errors on routine plays are always unfortunate, especially when no one is at fault. Red Sox first baseman Mauro Gomez was a victim on Friday night.

In the bottom of the first inning, Rays center fielder B.J. Upton hit a soft grounder to Will Middlebrooks at third base. Middlebrooks fired to first, and Gomez scooped the ball in time — but it ripped through the webbing of Gomez's glove.

Gomez was charged with the error, and the inning went on for starter Franklin Morales. He got out of the jam, though, and went on to earn the victory in the 3-1 win.
