NHL Owners Playing With Fire, As Crazy First Offer Makes Work Stoppage a Realistic Possibility (Podcast)There’s still plenty of time between now and what we hope is the start of another exciting hockey season, but things are looking rather iffy.

NHL labor talks are suddenly becoming the focus of attention, and it’s not for good reason. The NHL owners and players could be in store for a long offseason judging by the owners’ initial proposal, which is laughable in the minds of many.

NESN.com NHL insider Douglas Flynn caught up with Ricky Doyle, and the two discussed the chances of a work stoppage, which you can bet is something no hockey fan wants to see. Unfortunately, however, it’s looking like a realistic possibility given the absurdity of the recent proposal.

After discussing the unpredictable future of the league as a whole, Flynn also broke down some other happenings of the past week. Among those is the sudden trend of older players looking to make an NHL comeback, including Dominik Hasek, Mike Modano and P.J. Axelsson.

Other topics of conversation included Mike Green‘s big deal with Washington, the futures of Shane Doan, Alexander Semin and Roberto Luongo, and the Jets’ attempt to sign Evander Kane to a long-term extension.
