Red Sox Need to Show Fight Against Banged-Up Yankees in Crucial Series at Fenway

The Red Sox trail the Yankees by 7 1/2 games going into this weekend’s four-game set at Fenway, setting up what could be a make-or-break series for Boston.

Working in the Sox’ favor is the absence of CC Sabathia and Andy Pettitte, both of whom are on the disabled list. The Bronx Bombers may still hold the edge, but the Red Sox undoubtedly have a better chance when New York’s rotation is in flux.

Even if the Red Sox sweep the series, they’ll still have more ground to make up, which includes having to leapfrog the Orioles and Rays. However, this series could be the start of something special.
