The Red Sox put an end to the relationship on Tuesday afternoon when it announced that it had released the right-hander. Jenks was placed on unconditional release waivers.
The 31-year-old reliever battled injury and off-the-field problems throughout his brief stint with the club. Signed prior to the 2011 season, Jenks had problems staying on the field and even more problems pitching well when he was active.
Jenks pitched in only 19 games with the Sox, all of which came in 2011. He has spent the entire 2012 season on the 60-day disabled list after a scary back issue that led to surgery in December.
In those 19 games in the 2011 season, Jenks went 2-2 with a 6.32 ERA, pitching just 15 2/3 innings. He also spent three stints on the disabled list last season.
The big righty was also arrested on a DUI charge during spring training.
Jenks signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Red Sox in December of 2010 after spending his first six big league seasons with the White Sox.
