Report: David Ortiz Not Likely to Return Wednesday From Achilles Injury After Disabled List Stint EndsThe plan to get David Ortiz back on the field as quickly as possible appears to have hit a snag.

Ortiz ran into some pain in his heel on Saturday, Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes Los Angeles reports. With Ortiz not jumping into baseball activities until Tuesday now, playing on Wednesday looks to be out of the picture.

Ortiz has worn a walking boot and had treatment since he first hurt his Achilles tendon July 16 while rounding the bases against the White Sox. While Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine and the team seemed optimistic that Ortiz would return Wednesday, Ortiz emphasized that he didn't want to rush the process. Now, his body appears to be reinforcing that idea.

"I can't say right now when I'll be ready to play," Ortiz said, according to ESPN. "Let's see how the process goes."

Ortiz has been the backbone of the Red Sox all season, carrying the team with 23 homers, 58 RBIs and a .316 batting average, including an 11-game hitting streak that he carried into his disabled list stint.
