The heavily sought after point guard agreed to a five-year, $100 million contract extension with the Nets on Tuesday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
Williams had been courted by a number of different clubs this offseason, and ultimately narrowed it down to remaining with the Nets or heading home to become a member of the Dallas Mavericks. But a post on his Twitter account late Tuesday evening helped confirm the guard's decision.
Williams, who joined the Nets in a trade from the Utah Jazz in February of 2011, showed off his scoring ability and elite point guard skills during a season and a half in New Jersey. He averaged 21 points, 8.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game during the 66-game 2011-12 season.
Williams decision to remain with the Nets is another big step in Brooklyn's attempt to lock down the latest Big 3 unit in the NBA. On Monday, the Nets pulled off a deal to acquire guard Joe Johnson from the Hawks, and the team is still in talks with the Orlando Magic in hopes of bringing center Dwight Howard to Brooklyn as well.
