Rangers Acquire Ryan Dempster From Cubs Moments Before Trade DeadlineRyan Dempster was about to become an Atlanta Brave, and that fell apart. Then he seemed close to landing with the Dodgers, and that didn't happen. With minutes to go before Tuesday's trade deadline, it sounded like he was set to join the Yankees.

In the end, it was none of the above.

The Cubs traded Dempster to the Texas Rangers just minutes before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

It's still unclear at this point who the Cubs have acquired in the deal.

The 35-year-old Dempster is 5-5 this season with a 2.25 ERA in 16 starts. The veteran right-hander had put together a 33-inning scoreless streak earlier this season, but he's struggled as of late. He gave up a total of seven runs in just 12 innings in his last two starts in a Cubs uniform, both losses.

It will also be Dempster's first time pitching in the American League. He's 11-15 with a 4.63 ERA in 50 games and 35 starts against American League clubs during interleague play. He's also allowed 30 home runs in 299 1/3 innings pitched in those interleague matchups.
