Red Sox outfielders have landed on the disabled list this season for many reasons. Ryan Sweeney‘s may be the worst.
Sweeney is expected to miss eight weeks after punching a dugout door after grounding out during Monday night’s game, Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports.

Sweeney apologized to Red Sox fans via Twitter on Tuesday. He explained the night before that, while he’s smacked things in anger before, it usually doesn’t hurt as bad — or do as much damage — as it did Monday.
Cafardo also reported that Ryan Kalish would likely be called up if Sweeney were to miss time. Kalish made an appearance for the Red Sox earlier this year as manager Bobby Valentine looked to fill injury holes in the outfield. Jacoby Ellsbury, Carl Crawford, Cody Ross, Scott Podsednik and Sweeney have all spent time on the disabled list, and Daniel Nava has also been injured, although not to the point of being put on the disabled list.
Sweeney’s is just the latest of many ignominious sports injuries where anger got the best of an athlete.
