Alex Morgan Signs Deal to Write Children's Books, 'The Kicks' Will Debut in Summer 2013Alex Morgan is following in Hope Solo's footsteps and entering the world of publishing. Unlike her veteran teammate, the 23-year-old soccer star isn't writing a tell-all book, at least not yet.

Morgan signed a deal with Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing to write "The Kicks," a three-book series for middle schoolers, according to the Associated Press.

Morgan wants to "inspire young girls" and "celebrate" her love of soccer, a statement from Simon & Schuster said. The first intallment of "The Kicks" will come out in summer 2013.

Morgan helped propel the United States to the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympic games. The Southern California native thrived as a starter, scoring three goals and setting up four more in the competition. The goal she scored in extra time against Canada sent the U.S. to the final, and made her a national sports icon.

The U.S. women won't compete in another major tournament until 2015 — the next FIFA Women's World Cup. Some players will shun the limelight, while others are looking to remain in the public eye.

Morgan hopes the books help improve the lives of young people. Simon and Schuster hopes to capitalize on U.S. soccer's breakout star.
