During a press conference ahead of the Spanish Supercup, new Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova reacted to Jose Mourinho’s comments stating that Barcelona is not a dynasty or a dominant team because it didn’t win back to back UEFA Champions League titles.
Vilanova declared that he respects the comments of his Real Madrid
colleague but believes this Barcelona is special.
“What I know is that
this team has done incredible things, things that cannot be equalled. We
won nine titles out of a possible nine in the first two years. I don’t
know if that is dominance or not. But there are four or five teams in
the history of football that will be remembered for the amount of titles
won, and this team is one of them,” Vilanova said.
This is the first Mourinho-Vilanova war of words since Vilanova took
over as Barcelona’s coach after being Pep Guardiola‘s assistant during
the most successful period in the Barça’s history. It will not be the
last one for sure.
