One of the surprises of Barcelona’s presentation at Camp Nou on Monday
was seeing Eric Abidal wearing Barca’s uniform. Fans cheered the
French defender when his name was announced over the speakers.
During his speech at the presentation, new Barcelona manager Tito
Vilanova praised Abidal and expressed his happiness of seeing him again
dressed in shorts.
“It makes me very happy that Abidal is here with us.
If you are strong and have the willing, we’ll wait for you. Your fight
is our strength,” Vilanova said.
Abidal arrived in Barcelona in 2007 from Lyon and established himself as a
solid left back until health issues in the past two seasons made him
retire temporarily. He underwent a liver transplant in April and is
currently in recovery, hoping to be able to play again in January or
February.
