Some of the nation’s top cyclists will take to the streets of Boston on Sept. 22 in the TD Bank Mayor’s Cup, the final event of USA Cycling’s National Criterium series. But, as part of the TD Bank Boston Cycling Celebration, the casual cyclist still has a chance to get in on the action in the following day’s Hub on Wheels Citywide Ride.
Hub on Wheels, now in its eighth year, offers cyclists a chance to bike around the city of Boston, highlighted by scenic views of Boston Harbor and a car-free Storrow Drive. The ride is designed for cyclists of all abilities, with the option to choose a 10-, 30- or 50-mile route.
Registration costs $45 and is open at Boston Cycling Celebration. Riders must be at least 10 years old to complete the 10-mile course and at least 12 for the longer courses. Bikes will also be available to rent, and a portion of the proceeds from the event will go to Technology Goes Home, a tech-training program serving inner-city families through the Boston Public Schools.
The ride begins at City Hall Plaza at 8 a.m. on Sept. 23, and all participants are invited to the post-ride Boloco
Block Party, which includes food and family-friendly entertainment.
“Hub on Wheels has become one of the best annual events in Boston,” said mayor Thomas
M. Menino. “It is a chance for the entire community to come together, get
outside and ride through our beautiful neighborhoods. This event, along with
the TD Bank Mayor’s Cup pro races, are also a culmination of another great year
of hard work in making Boston a world-class city for biking.”
