Red Sox Need Adrian Gonzalez, Dustin Pedroia to Stay Hot Upon Opening Series With OriolesEditor's note: The temperature gauge is a Bill James-created statistic that measures how hot or cold hitters are. We will spotlight Red Sox and opposing team temperatures on game days.

Dustin Pedroia and Adrian Gonzalez are arguably the two best hitters in the Red Sox lineup, and they've certainly been making the case for such claims lately.

The duo in the middle of the Boston lineup has turned it on as of late, and their production will continue to be as important as ever with the Sox opening a three-game series in Baltimore on Tuesday.

Gonzalez has been hot for the entire second half, making a subpar first half seem like a distant memory. The first baseman is hitting .393 with seven home runs and 35 RBIs in just 28 games since the All-Star break. He's somehow been even better since the calendar flipped to August, hitting .422 (19-for-45) with three home runs and 18 RBIs for the month.

Pedroia enters the pivotal series riding an eight-game hitting streak. The second baseman is hitting .457 (14-30) in that stretch, and has multiple hits in five of those eight games.
