Rich Hill is trying to battle his way back from injury
again.
After a yearlong rehab from Tommy John surgery, the lefty
specialist returned to the Red Sox bullpen in May. But his playing time was
short-lived after suffering a strained flexor in his elbow in June.
Now, after 11 weeks on the shelf, Hill is scheduled to
rejoin his club on Saturday — when teams are eligible to expand their rosters — and the Red Sox plan to activate him from the disabled list.
"Obviously it was just a bump in the road looking
back on it but you want to be back out there competing, getting after it,"
Hill told reporters. "I'm looking forward to pitching.
"With all the work that you put in the offseason and
all the work that comes into coming back and having obviously a setback like
this, it is frustrating, no doubt about it. You see how far and how hard you
worked to come back and then have something happen is just part of the game, I
guess."
In 17 appearances before his setback, Hill notched a 2.63
ERA and yielded just 12 hits and four runs. He struck out 11 batters and walked
seven in 13 2/3 innings.
