Red Sox Nation held its collective breath when Will Middlebrooks was hit on the wrist by a 96-mph screamer of a fastball in the top of the ninth inning on Friday night, and subsequently had to exit the ballgame against Cleveland.

Now it appears that the star rookie third baseman is not quite out of the woods yet, as he is headed for X-rays on the affected right wrist.

The 23-year-old Middlebrooks is hitting .288 with 15 home runs and 54 RBIs on the season.
