In the upcoming presidential election, the name of the game, like always, is demographics.
In that sense, there are certain unalienable truths that will always remain so. California will always vote Democrat, Texas will always vote Republican and sports fans will ask that you kindly don't talk about politics. But that being said, if there's one corner of the sporting world that would seem firmly in line behind one political party, it would be NASCAR fans, right?
Well, apparently auto racing enthusiasts don't just turn left, they vote left as well.
In a poll conducted by JZ Analytics — part of a well-respected market research firm founded in 1984 by John Zogby — President Barack Obama is relatively crushing Republican challenger Mitt Romney in that sector, with a seven-point, 48 percent to 41 percent lead. So, while you're not soon to see vegetarian tofu wraps served at racetracks around the country, the stereotype of a NASCAR fan may belie their actual political affiliations.
