Bobby Valentine Believes He’s ‘Best Man for the Job’ of Managing Red Sox

BOSTON –– There’s no doubt Bobby Valentine wants to atone for this season.

Heading into Tuesday’s game, the Red Sox were stuck in the American League East basement, saddled with a 63-78 record and 16 1/2 games out of first place. They have resorted to playing a spoiler role against their remaining opponents.

Even so, Valentine –– who is signed to a two-year contract –– has a direct message for fans.

“I’m the best man for the job,” Valentine said.

The manager admitted to empathizing with the Red Sox fan base. After managing 16 years in Major League Baseball, this season has proven to be the toughest season in his career.

“I haven’t lost any sleep only because when I get to bed, I’m worn out,” he said. “These games have worn me out, to tell you the truth, very often.”

But he’s still up for the challenge.
