Malcolm Subban got one step closer to his dream of playing in the NHL when he signed his first contract on Thursday afternoon.
The Bruins' first-round draft pick — No. 24 overall — agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract, the club announced Thursday.
The 18-year-old goalie is coming off of a stellar year in the Ontario Hockey League with the Belleville Bulls. Subban posted a 2.53 goals against average to go along with a .923 save percentage en route to a 25-14 record.
He was ranked the top North American draft-eligible goaltender, according to the central scouting bureau.
The 6-foot-1, 188-pound goaltender was in the Boston area not long ago, attending the annual development camp in July in Wilmington, Mass.
"They want to see your work ethic and see all areas of your game and what you need to improve on," Subban said at the time. "It wasn't too much, but it's a good camp and it's just good to get your foot in the door and get to know the Boston Bruins and what they're all about."
It's safe to say he's about to learn even more of what the Bruins are all about now.
Subban is the brother of Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban.
