Chad Johnson Tweets About Flight to Philadelphia, But Marriage With Eagles Seems UnlikelyChad Johnson
endured maybe the most brutal offseason any player not associated with the New Orleans Saints could fathom.

After being released by the New England Patriots during OTAs in June, Johnson then had a fruitless endeavor in Miami, where he saw both his marriage and career with the Dolphins head butted into oblivion before either even got going. But could the tides finally be turning for the Pro Bowl wide receiver?

Very early on Tuesday morning, or very late on Monday night, Johnson found himself tweeting his way to sleep, a common occurrence for the social media addict. But the tweet explained that he would be heading off to Philadelphia early in the morning, which brings on some interesting conjecture as to his purpose in The City of Brotherly Love.

The man formerly known as Ochocinco could merely be appearing on a talk show or even doing some work for his very own Ochocinco News Network (OCNN), but there’s been plenty of speculation that Johnson was flying to Philly for a meeting with the Eagles. He is still a football player, of course.

Johnson may be maligned in many circles throughout the NFL, especially given his unpredictable behavior and countless off-the-field escapades, but while in Miami, he did show off the unique ability that made him a top-flight wideout for more than a decade.

As for the Eagles, with both DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin ailing from their own personal injuries (both played in the Week 2 win against Baltimore), head coach Andy Reid could always be looking for help for quarterback Michael Vick along the outside.

Despite rampant speculation, though, Johnson might not be the one to fill the Eagles’ receiving void. Johnson was headed to Philly on Tuesday, the day most NFL teams work out potential free-agent acquisitions, but the Eagles had no intention of working him out, according to CSN Philadelphia’s Geoff Mosher.

The Eagles reportedly did not have a workout scheduled with Johnson, and Mosher seems to think there’s no chance he’ll be offered a tryout in the near future. So ends the most recent saga in Johnson’s return to the football field, although it would be nice to see him don a helmet rather than handcuffs for a change.
