It's rare enough to see one receiver rack up 300-plus yards in one game, but two in one day?
That's what happened Saturday when both Arkansas' Cobi Hamilton and Tennessee Tech's Da'Rick Rogers each had 303 receiving yards on the day. And this was in real life, we're not writing about video game results here.
Hamilton was in a full receiving corps last season playing alongside Joe Adams, Jarius Wright and Greg Childs, all taken in the 2012 NFL draft. The senior wide receiver took full advantage of being the top receiver left on the team Saturday, and of having his starting quarterback Tyler Wilson back after missing Week 1 and most of the Razorbacks' Week 2 loss against Lousiana Monroe with a concussion.
Hamilton had 10 receptions for 303 yards and three touchdowns in a losing effort to Rutgers.
Rogers was a top receiver in the SEC last season with 67 receptions for 1,040 yards and nine touchdowns, and had to transfer from Tennessee due to failed drug tests. The junior had to scramble after being suspended on Aug. 23 and found a new home at Tennessee Tech where he played his first game just a week later.
Rogers had 201 yards on the season coming into Saturday, and went off for 18 receptions, 303 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to Southeast Missouri State.
Both players set team records with their receiving totals, but didn't come close to setting NCAA records. Louisiana Tech's Troy Edwards has the NCAA record for receiving yards in a game with 405 in 1998 against Nebraska. Jerry Rice holds the FCS record for receptions in a game with 24 back in 1983. Only 25 players have achieved a total of 300-plus receiving yards in one game.
Each players are top wide receiver prospects in the 2013 NFL draft.
