David Akers
has been kicking field goals in the NFL for 14 years, but his big boot on Sunday may have been the most impressive.

Akers kicked a record-tying 63-yard field goal to close out the first half of the 49ers’ victory over the Packers. The kick initially bounced off the crossbar, but it then fluttered through the uprights, giving the Niners three big points as they headed into the locker room.

Akers’ previous long field goal was a 57-yarder, which came back in 2003 when he was still with the Eagles. His kick on Sunday is the fourth 63-yarder in league history, with Tom Dempsey, Jason Elam and Sebastian Janikowski also accomplishing the feat.
