Dustin Pedroia Welcomes Nine-Pound Son, Says Newcomer Will Get 'Beat On' by Older BrotherDustin Pedroia
may not be a man of great physical stature, but he knows how to defend himself.

It sounds like he's going to raise his sons to scrap and fight like he does, too.

Pedroia and his wife, Kelli, welcomed a son Wednesday night after Pedroia abruptly left the Red Sox' game against the Yankees.

The newest Pedroia, named Cole, was almost nine pounds at birth.

"It all worked out great," Pedroia said, according to the Boston Globe. "They're both healthy, and it's all I could ask for."

Pedroia said Cole came home Friday afternoon, and Pedroia was on a flight that evening to join the team in Toronto. He missed Friday night's game but was in the lineup Saturday.

Pedroia said he watched the Red Sox' games on TV to keep track of how the team was doing while he was gone.

"I missed being around those guys and doing what I can to help them out, so it's good to be back," he said.

Cole's older brother, Dylan, 3, was reportedly just as excited as his father.

"He's all fired up," Pedroia said. "Thank God the baby's big, because he'll probably beat on him a little bit."

Sounds like one big happy family.
