It’s been a while since Gina Carano has stepped into an octagon for a mixed martial arts bout, but her obvious toughness made her a perfect candidate to star in the new female version of The Expendables.

Well, it looks like Carano will assume such a role. The former MMA star is expected to continue her successful transition to acting by starring in the female version of Sylvester Stallone‘s box office hit, according to Entertainment Weekly.

“I don’t know how I’m supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of The Expendables without Gina Carano in it,” producer Adi Shankar told Variety. “It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba.”

Carano starred in Haywire and will also appear in The Fast and the Furious 6. Before her acting career took off, however, Carano was known for her MMA prowess, going undefeated in her first seven fights before falling to Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos.

Carano has also appeared on a number of magazine and website lists for reasons that are much more obvious at first glance: her looks. The Texas native was often referred to as the “Face of Women’s MMA” before the beautiful fighter stepped away from the octagon following her 2009 bout with Santos.

Even with mixed martial arts in the rear-view mirror, the looks and toughness are still there. So all things considered, the female The Expendables just got even more enticing.

I just feel bad for the fans. They pay good money and the game is being tarnished by an NFL who obviously cares more about saving a little money then having the integrity of the game diminish a little bit.
