Jerry Jones Thinks Cowboys' Opening Night Win Over Giants Was 'Very Significant'Wednesday night marked literally the first game of the NFL season. There are many more to play, hundreds even, and 15 of those games will involve the Dallas Cowboys.

In short, there's a lot of time left in this season.

However, everything is bigger in Texas, including Jerry Jones' proclamations, and therefore, no one should be surprised by what he said following his team's opening night win.

The Cowboys owner feels that this team's win over the Giants represents something much more than a divisional win on Sept. 5. It was, in fact, "very significant."

"What I didn't say and didn't know — would this team have the courage to play against a quality team like that, on the road, and have the courage to stay in there and win a ballgame?" Jones said, according to the Star-Telegram. "And I really was concerned there late in the game that we were going to fool around here get them back in it.

"But this bunch persevered. It was a very significant win for the franchise."

The Cowboys and Giants obviously have a lot of history, and recently, things haven't gone the way of the star. Dallas had a chance to win the NFC East in Week 17 last season, but they were shellacked in East Rutherford by the Giants. That was just a few weeks after the Cowboys coughed up a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter at home against New York.
