Jon Lester took the mound for the Red Sox on Tuesday night the same as he usually does every five days, with one small difference. This time, the pitcher was wearing bright yellow cleats and a new glove with a yellow patch to go with some lettering.

The reason?

Lester is wearing the new cleats and glove as a part of a Livestrong campaign, in association with NIKE baseball. The 28-year-old left-hander, himself a cancer survivor, tweeted out a picture of his new gear before the game with a not about how proud he is to support the cause.

Lester was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma during the 2006 season and returned to the Red Sox the next season after undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Lester is currently partnered with the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation and its "NVRQT" campaign, which stands for "Never quit."
