Joshua Morgan’s Boneheaded Penalty Against Rams May Have Cost Redskins Game (Video)

Stupid football is the worst, especially when it might have cost a team their chance at winning.

The Washington Redskins fell victim to stupid football on Sunday against the Rams when a costly 15-yard penalty made a potential game-tying field goal much, much more difficult than it should have been.

The culprit was Joshua Morgan whose unsportsmanlike conduct penalty turned what would have been about a 47-yard field goal attempt into a 62-yard attempt. AFC Championship goat Billy Cundiff couldn’t pull off the miracle kick, and the Skins took their first loss of the season.

Morgan actually did a nice job of picking up a handful of yards on third down to get Washington a little closer for the field goal, but he let his emotions get the best of him. St. Louis cornerback Cortland Finnegan (who else?) gave Morgan a little shove after the play, to which Morgan responded by throwing the ball at Finnegan.

The flag then went flying, setting the stage for the missed field goal.

The play was probably best summed up by the fantastic photo below of the Washington sideline right after the penalty flag was tossed.
