President Barack Obama's love for basketball is well known.
Whether he's glad-handing gold-medal winners after the Summer Olympics or whipping out Jeremy Lin references to bolster his re-election campaign, Obama hasn't been shy about showing how much he knows about the game.
Obama's hoops connection isn't just rooted in how much he likes to play and watch basketball, though. When Obama married his wife, then Michelle Robinson, he was joining a family that already had a sports pedigree of its own.
Michelle Obama's brother, Craig Robinson, was a two-time Ivy League Player of the Year at Princeton University and was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1983. Although he never played in the NBA, Robinson did play pro ball in Great Britain. He then returned to the U.S. to start a coaching career that has taken him many places, the most recent stop being the head coach job at Oregon State.
While Robinson has had a few bumpy seasons with the Beavers, he led the team to a 21-15 record last year. But, like every college basketball coach, Robinson could use some help recruiting. That's where his famous brother-in-law comes in.
Robinson and Barack Obama's sister, Maya Soetoro-ng, were invited to speak at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday night. The two made quite the pair, with Robinson towering over his in-law counterpart.
Robinson showed a clear comfort in the public eye and wasted no time in using his greeting to make a pitch for aspiring players — especially the 7-foot variety. Check it out in the video below.
