Orioles Pitcher Tommy Hunter Claims Victory After Bird Leaves Droppings on His CapAfter Wednesday’s 18-inning marathon win over the Mariners, Orioles pitcher Tommy Hunter emerged with the victory.

During that relief appearance –– where he pitched two innings –– he made the Oriole bird logo stitched on baseball cap proud. As it turns out, Hunter also received a good luck charm from a real bird Wednesday.

While Hunter was in the bullpen, a bird left some droppings that plopped straight onto his cap. Ironically, it was bird-on-bird crime, since the defecation took place right next to the Orioles logo.

“I was minding my own business, not doing anything. I thought it was [reliever Luis] Ayala throwing stuff at me. You know, he usually does. So I didn’t know what it was,” Hunter said. “I just thought someone threw a piece of gum and hit me. It wasn’t a piece of gum, man.

“Everybody just started dying laughing. Then everybody said it was good luck. Then we won. … I was getting ready to go warm up and it went [plop] and I looked at it and everyone started laughing. I had bird [droppings] on my head.”

The good luck resulted in Hunter’s fourth win of the season. And maybe, just maybe, he should considering wearing the cap for the rest of the season.
